Iran President Says Coronavirus Should Be Taken Seriously
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian President Hassan Rouhani urged the entire nation to take the novel coronavirus seriously, vowing that the government is working hard to minimize the COVID-19’s tolls on the lives of people.
“Everybody must take the issue of coronavirus seriously,” Rouhani said in a weekly cabinet session on Wednesday.
There is a consensus in the world that to fight coronavirus, the chain must be cut from its origin, he said, urging people to minimize their urban and interurban travels.
“The administration members are doing their best to minimize the COVID-19 tolls on the economy and people’s lives,” he added.
The president further appreciated the hard work of all the people involved in fighting COVID-19 in the country, saying, “The upcoming Nowruz holidays are a good opportunity to win the fight against coronavirus.”
Rouhani warned that the holidays should not turn into unmanaged travels and give the virus a chance to further spread in the country.
The number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran hit 9,000 on Wednesday after detection of 958 new cases.
The death toll from COVID-19 outbreak in the country has also risen to 354. Meanwhile, nearly 3,000 coronavirus patients have recovered from the respiratory disease and been discharged from the hospital so far.
