President Highlights Iran’s Glorious Battle with COVID-19 under Sanctions
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani highlighted his administration’s vigorous fight against the novel coronavirus despite the heavy pressure of sanctions, warning against attempts at upsetting calm in the society.
Rouhani on Saturday held a teleconference with the cabinet members and deputies of the presidential staff and his advisers to coordinate the nationwide plans for addressing the coronavirus epidemic.
No country in the world would be able to contain the widespread outbreak of the coronavirus under the sanctions and the maximum pressures imposed from abroad, the president said.
He added that the Iranian administration is working hard in this regard.
The media should let people know that the administration has been taking glorious measures to address COVID-19 in spite of the US’ maximum pressures and the inhumane impacts of the sanctions when compared with other countries, Rouhani said.
Stressing the need for transparent, clear and detailed information on the coronavirus fight, the president warned against attempts to upset psychological calm in the society.
He also called for efforts to thwart the plots for fomenting doubt and spreading false rumors in the country with the purpose of creating bipolarity and disagreement among people.
Last week, Rouhani dismissed the US government’s offer to help Iran in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak, saying all Iranians know that the American officials’ claim of being ready to help is nothing but a lie.
“If you (the American officials) are really honest, at least lift the sanctions on drugs,” he had said, adding that it would be the first step to show their sincerity.
