Iran-Afghanistan Border Crossings Kept Open
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – While a number of Iran’s neighbors have decided to close the common border over concerns about the outbreak of the coronavirus, all border crossings between Iran and Afghanistan are open and the Iranian export of commodities is in progress, an official said.
The spokesperson for the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs said all border crossings between Iran and Afghanistan are open and shipments of Iranian products are being exported to the eastern neighbor through Dogharoon and Mahirood border crossings.
The spokesperson also noted that all travelers at the Dogharoon border crossing are screened for coronavirus, and that a slower pace of customs affairs is due to stricter supervision to prevent the export of medical supplies.
Last week, Iran’s ambassador to Ankara said Iranian and Turkish cargo trucks are carrying out ground shipping service via third countries.
“At present, the transit trucks of the two countries (Iran and Turkey) are passing through third destinations,” Mohammad Farazmand said in Twitter post.
The Iranian Health Ministry said on Monday that since the outbreak of the new coronavirus in the country, 4,996 patients have completely recovered from the infectious disease.
The total number of coronavirus deaths in the country has risen to 853, while 4,996 patients have been discharged from the hospital after recovering from the disease, it added.
