US Making Futile Attempt to Cut Iran Energy Exports to Iraq, Envoy Says
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Ambassador to Baghdad said the US sanctions and pressures in order to deprive Iraq of Iranian energy will get nowhere.
In an interview with Al-Alam News Network, Iraj Masjedi said the US government is imposing heavy pressures on Iraq to deprive the Arab country of Iranian energy resources, but all to no avail.
Despite its attempts to mount pressure on Iraq, Washington will be unable to impose sanctions against Baghdad, particularly in the current circumstances that Iraq is in dire need of the energy and power that it receives from Iran with competitive pricing, the envoy added.
The sanctions that the US is threatening to implement against Iraq are actually targeting the interests of the Iraqi nation, Masjedi deplored.
The ambassador also expressed hope that the relations between Tehran and Baghdad would further grow and new bilateral agreements would be signed during new Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi’s tenure.
Kadhimi took office after the Iraqi parliament approved a new government last week following nearly six months of political wrangling.
