Pakistan Extends Condolences to Iran over Tragic Naval Incident

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Pakistan's Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi sent a message of condolence to Iran's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi on a recent tragic incident in the country’s southern waters.

It was indeed a great tragedy and Pakistan Navy stands shoulder to shoulder with Iranian brethren in this hour of grief, Admiral Abbasi said, praying to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in peace, grant fortitude to the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy and the bereaved families to bear this irreparable loss.

According to Iran’s Navy, the incident happened on May 11 when a number of the Navy vessels were carrying an exercise off the coasts of Jask and Chabahar southeast of Iran. Nineteen servicemen were martyred and 15 others injured in the event.

After the incident, the casualties were dispatched to the Haft-e Tir Pier in Chabahar, and transferred to the city’s Imam Ali (AS) Hospital via ten ambulances.

An informed military source, meanwhile, dismissed reports that the vessel had been totally destroyed in the incident, saying it had been towed to the shore afterward.

The Navy confirmed that the Konarak support vessel had been transferred to a local pier for technical examination.
