TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Thousands of people from hundreds of different areas around metro Atlanta came together with faith leaders from several churches for a march on Atlanta marking Juneteenth.

Thousands of people from hundreds of different areas around Atlanta came together to celebrate the historical Juneteenth rally in support of the fight for justice, freedom, and equality in Atlanta.

The 'March on Atlanta' was organized by OneRace, a diverse Christian-based group of young adults, who are calling for a clear biblical response of righteousness and justice in the light of the racially motivated violence of the past several weeks, and the corresponding protests across our nation.

This year's Juneteenth takes place in the wake of nationwide protests and racial tensions over racism and police brutality following the recent killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Rayshard Brooks and other black Americans.

On June 19, 1865, Union army general Gordon Granger proclaimed in Galveston, Texas that all enslaved African-Americans in the state were free, belatedly enforcing President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation.
