Tractor, Esteghlal Miss Chance of Winning IPL Title
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Tractor and Esteghlal football teams were held against their rivals and missed their hopes of winning Iran Professional League (IPL).
On Thursday, Esteghlal drew 1-1 with Nassaji in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium behind closed doors.
Cheick Diabate scored his 10th goal of the season in the 40th minute from the penalty spot but after two minutes Mohammad Miri levelled the match with a 40-meter shot.
Esteghlal remained fifth with 42 points, 17 points behind IPL leader Persepolis with five matches to go.
In Isfahan, 10-man Sepahan beat Sanat Naft 1-0 thanks to Mohammad Reza Mehdizadeh’s 15th minute goal and moved to second place.
Tractor drew 0-0 with Shahr Khodro in Mashhad and dropped to third place.
Struggling Gol Gohar beat Machine Sazi 2-1 in its away match, and Paykan shared the spoils with Pars Jonoubi after a 0-0 draw.
Foolad defeated Zob Ahan 2-1 in Ahvaz.
And Shahin Bushehr took another step towards relegation after a 1-1 draw against Saipa.
Persepolis needs just a draw against Naft Masjed Soleyman on Friday to win the IPL title for the fourth time in a row.
