Coronavirus in Iran: Death Toll Close to 16,000
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from COVID-19 in Iran is about to hit 16,000, while more than 255,000 positive cases have recovered from the disease.
Speaking at a daily press conference on Monday, the Health Ministry spokeswoman, Sima Sadat Lari, said the coronavirus has taken the lives of 212 patients in Iran during the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 15,912.
The total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 293,606 following the detection of 2,434 new cases since yesterday, she added.
Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,436 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.
At least 255,144 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.
Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,819 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.
The spokeswoman also said more than 2,353,500 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 16.4 million and the death toll has surpassed 652,000.
