Zarif Highlights Imam Hussein’s Lesson of Resistance to Tyranny, Injustice
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Honoring Imam Hussein’s (AS) great sacrifice has ingrained resistance to tyranny and injustice in hearts and souls of his followers for centuries, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said.
“Since 680 CE, millions of Muslims have commemorated martyrdom of Imam Hussein,” Zarif wrote in a tweet on Saturday, on the eve of Ashura that marks the martyrdom anniversary of the third Shiite Imam (AS).
“Honoring his (Imam Hussein’s) great sacrifice has ingrained resistance to tyranny and injustice in hearts and souls of his followers for centuries,” Zarif added.
“‘I do not see death but bliss, and life under tyranny but misery’,” the Iranian top diplomat quoted Imam Hussein (AS) as saying.
Millions of Muslims around the world are commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.
Imam Hussein (AS), a grandson of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
