Poll: Majority Believes Both Parties Act in Party Leaders' Interest over US Voters
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A majority of American voters say they feel that both the Democratic and Republican parties look out for the best interests of party leaders rather than voters, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Respondents in the survey were 6 percentage points more likely to say the Republican Party looks out for the best interest of party leaders over voters.
Fifty-four percent of registered voters in the Aug. 18-19 survey said the Democratic Party looks out for the best interest of party leaders and not voters like them while 46 percent said the opposite.
By contrast, 60 percent of voters said the Republican Party looks out for the best interest of party leaders while 40 percent said it looks out for voters.
While voters mostly fell along partisan lines, the survey found roughly one-third of both Democrats and Republicans believe their party looks out for the best interests of party leaders and not voters.
Twenty-nine percent of Democrats said the Democratic Party looks out for the best interest of party leaders over voters, while 35 percent of Republicans said the same of the Republican Party.
The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 948 registered voters between Aug. 18-19. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.18 percentage points.
