Iran’s Envoy to Turkey: Karabakh Part of Azerbaijan Republic
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Ambassador to Ankara deplored the occupation of one-fifth of territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan, saying the Karabakh region is officially registered as part of the Republic of Azerbaijan according to the UN decisions.
Turkish think tank, the Institute for Strategic Thinking (SDE), hosted a panel discussion about Iran’s policies towards the Caucasus and Tehran’s stances on the recent flare-up of fighting between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
In an address to the meeting, Iran’s Ambassador to Turkey Mohammad Farazmand elaborated on the Islamic Republic’s stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute.
Describing the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as one of the most important land crises, the Iranian ambassador said 20 percent of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s territory is under occupation, Anadolu’s Turkish website reported.
The United Nations has already taken decisions regarding the occupation of Karabakh, Farazmand stated, stressing that Karabakh is registered as Azerbaijani territory.
The envoy said the fact that Turkey is sensitive to Iran’s attitude towards the Nagorno-Karabakh crisis reveals the important place of Iran in the Turkish public opinion.
Countries in the region will be successful if they cooperate and show resistance against the ambitions of the US and the EU, Farazmand added.
“One of the reasons why the Minsk group cannot produce a solution to this issue is that every member has different interests in this region. For this reason, they could not even offer the slightest solution. They want the conflict between the two sides to continue. The Karabakh crisis is a crisis that will also affect Iran. For this reason, we do not want conflict and instability in the region. Efforts should be made to resolve this problem through fair solutions,” he stated.
