Iraqi President Raps Assassination of Fakhrizadeh, Urges Action to Prevent Instability

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – President of Iraq Barham Salih roundly condemned a recent assassination attack on Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, calling for concerted efforts to maintain stability and security in the region.

In a meeting with Iran’s ambassador to Baghdad on Wednesday, Salih condemned the assassination of the distinguished Iranian physicist.

Iraq strongly rejects acts of violence and tensions that undermine regional security and stability and supports regional collaboration for establishing peace and ensuring stability of the nations, he added.

For his part, the Iranian envoy, Iraj Masjedi, called for efforts to support Iraq’s stability and strengthen the economic and social relations between the two neighbors.

Fakhrizadeh, a senior nuclear and defense scientist, was assassinated in a small city east of Tehran on November 27.

Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani says it has become clear to Tehran that Munafeqin (Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization terrorists), the Zionist regime, and its spy service Mossad have been behind the assassination attack.
