COVID-19 Cases in Iran Over 1.1 Million

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran has surpassed 1.1 million, the Health Ministry said.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Saturday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 across the country has risen to 1,100,818 after the detection of 8,201 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,286 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,739 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions, Lari noted.

The death toll from COVID-19 in Iran has reached 51,949, she said, noting that the disease has taken the lives of 221 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 800,853 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Lari also noted that more than 6,657,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 71.5 million and the death toll has surpassed 1.6 million.
