VP Vows Equal Access to Coronavirus Vaccine in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – No Iranian government official or their family members will be permitted to get the coronavirus vaccine in violation of the regulations to be set by the Health Ministry, the vice president said.

Addressing an academic conference on Saturday, First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri assured the Iranian people that the Health Ministry will devise clear regulations about a vaccination scheme for the battle with the coronavirus pandemic.

He also pledged that none of the government officials or their family members will be allowed to have access to the coronavirus vaccine in violation of those regulations and instructions.

All people of Iran are prone to the coronavirus infection, and the priority groups for vaccination will be defined by the Health Ministry, he added.

Jahangiri said while the efforts are underway to develop a homegrown vaccine for COVID-19, the administration will not hesitate a moment to finance the purchase of a verified and reliable vaccine from abroad if that would be accessible even one day earlier than the domestically-made one.

On Wednesday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the Islamic Republic is on par with other countries in combating the coronavirus pandemic, giving an assurance that his administration has made arrangements to obtain reliable vaccines from abroad and develop a homegrown vaccine for the disease as well.

Meanwhile, President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Karim Hemmati has announced that the coronavirus vaccine that Iran has bought is made in China, assuring people that the Food and Drug Administration of Iran is strictly controling all vaccines and medicine.
