Esteghlal, Persepolis Share Spoils: IPL
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Esteghlal and Persepolis football teams shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw in the Iran Professional League (IPL) here on Monday.
Arsalan Motahari gave Esteghlal an early lead just one minute into the match with a powerful shot from inside the box.
Afterward, Persepolis possessed the match and created some opportunities but their strikers lacked the cutting edge.
Then Mehdi Abdi equalized the match in the 51st minute from a counter attack.
Persepolis attacking midfielder Vahid Amiri made the score 2-1 in the 66th minute.
Another Persepolis midfielder, Ahmad Nourollahi, missed two clear chances after the second goal.
Esteghlal forward Mehdi Ghaedi canceled Amiri’s goal out in the injury time to earn a point for his team at the Azadi Stadium.
Sanat Naft remains top of the table with 21 points, followed by Esteghlal with 19 points.
Persepolis is eighth with 12 points and two games in hands.
