Coronavirus Cases in Iran Surpass 1.5 Million

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran exceeded 1,500,000 on Friday as the country has registered one of the lowest daily death rates over the past nine months.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Friday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 1,503,753 after the detection of 7,298 new cases since yesterday.

She said the pandemic has claimed 58 lives over the past 24 hours, one of the lowest numbers of fatalities since May 2020.

The overall coronavirus death toll in Iran stands at 58,809, Sima Sadat Lari added.

More than 1,285,000 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Lari said.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 3,729 are being kept in the Intensive Care Units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.

The spokeswoman also noted that more than 9,938,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 107 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.36 million.
