Over 8,000 New Coronavirus Cases Detected in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of Iranians tested positive for the coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours has surpassed 8,000, the Health Ministry said.

The Health Ministry’s spokeswoman announced at a press conference on Tuesday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has exceeded 1,534,000 following the detection of 8,011 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new patients detected in the past 24 hours, 690 have been admitted to the hospital, Sima Sadat Lari added.

At least 1,310,821 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 59,117, saying the disease has taken the lives of 89 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,696 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 10,161,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 109 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.42 million.
