COVID-19 Cases in Iran Close to 1.6 Million

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The total number of people infected with the coronavirus in Iran is about to hit 1.6 million as the country has marked a two-digit number for the daily deaths for the second month.

Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Tuesday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 1,590,600 after the detection of 8,330 new cases since yesterday.

The pandemic has claimed 91 lives over the past 24 hours, while the overall coronavirus death toll in Iran stands at 59,663, Sima Sadat Lari added.

More than 1,358,500 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Lari said.

Among those undergoing treatment at present, 3,696 are being kept in the Intensive Care Units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 112 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.48 million.
