Iran Given Priority in Syria’s Reconstruction: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Chairman of Syria-Iran Chamber of Commerce said Iranian companies have priority over others for carrying out projects in the reconstruction process of Syria after years of war.

In an interview with Tasnim in Damascus, Fahad Darwish praised Iran for supporting his country during years of war.

“The friendly countries, or better said, the Islamic Republic of Iran and its companies, will have priority in reconstruction of Syria and obtain special concessions,” the chairman of Iran-Syria Chamber of Commerce added.

Highlighting Iran’s considerable experience in defeating foreign sanctions since the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the Syrian official said there are major Iranian companies capable of reconstructing cities in three years.

“The main purpose is to take advantage of Iran, its technologies, and the joint industries, to transfer Iranian technology to Syria, create actual cooperation between Syrian and Iranian plants, and use Iran’s experiences, industries and raw materials to repair and reconstruct big factories that have been damaged across Syria,” Darwish added.

In November 2019, Iran and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding to establish three joint companies to accelerate the reconstruction of the Arab country, which has been stricken by years of foreign-backed civil war.
