Iran Resolved to Assist in Reconstruction of Syria: Defense Minister
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Defense Minister of Iran Brigadier General Amir Hatami underlined the country’s determination to keep working with Syria in the process of reconstruction.
In a Tuesday meeting with Syria’s foreign minister in Tehran, General Hatami said Iran is determined to continue cooperation with Syria in reconstruction of the Arab country.
He also denounced the hostile actions against the Iranian and Syrian nations in recent years, saying the cowardly assassinations of top Iranian commander Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh reveal the enemy’s frustration.
For his part, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad condemned the assassination of Fakhrizadeh, saying such attacks would by no means impede Iran’s defense and scientific progress.
It’s a matter of pride that the Iranian Armed Forces are making headway in spite of the hostility from the US and the Zionist regime, the visiting diplomat added.
Syria’s new foreign minister has travelled to Iran in his first foreign trip after taking office.
Mekdad has held meetings with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.
