Coronavirus Death Toll in Iran Exceeds 62,200


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran surpassed 62,200 on Friday, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said.

Speaking at a daily press conference today, Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from the novel coronavirus in Iran at 62,223, saying the disease has taken the lives of 81 patients over the past 24 hours.

She said with the detection of 7,980 new cases since Thursday noon, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country has reached 1,838,803.

According to Lari, more than 1,577,000 coronavirus patients have so far recovered from the disease or have been discharged from hospitals in Iran.

The spokeswoman also said more than 12.48 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in the country so far.

More than 126 million people have been infected with COVID-19 across the world so far and the death toll from the disease has exceeded 2.76 million.
