Coronavirus in Iran: New Cases Surpass 21,000, Death Toll over 250
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s death toll from the coronavirus reached 258 on Sunday and the new cases admitted to the hospital exceeded 2,700 in the fourth wave of the pandemic in the country.
Providing the latest statistics on the coronavirus infection, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said on Sunday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has surpassed 2,070,000 after the detection of 21,063 new cases since yesterday.
Over 2,700 COVID-19 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she said, adding that the pandemic has claimed 258 lives over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll in Iran to 64,490.
More than 1,710,970 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, Sima Sadat Lari said.
Among those undergoing treatment at present, 4,392 are being kept in the Intensive Care Units of medical centers because of critical health conditions, she said.
The spokeswoman also noted that more than 13.67 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 136 million and the death toll has exceeded 2.94 million.
