Iranian FM’s Tour of Qatar, Iraq Unrelated to Third Parties: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry said the visits that Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is paying to Qatar and Iraq have nothing to do with third countries and are focused on bilateral and regional issues alone.

Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Saeed Khatibzadeh ruled out a connection between Zarif’s tour and the disputes between Tehran and Riyadh.

“Zarif’s visits to Qatar and Iraq are within the framework of Ramadan diplomacy. We have good and brotherly ties with Qatar and Iraq,” the spokesman noted, adding that ministerial visits to other countries are also on the agenda.

Khatibzadeh emphasized that the consultations that the Iranian top diplomat holds with the Qatari and Iraqi officials are focused on bilateral relations, Muslim world issues, and regional affairs.

“These trips have nothing to do with the third parties. However, we acknowledge the efforts of the two countries (Qatar and Iraq) in regional developments,” he added.

Zarif held separate meetings with the emir and the foreign minister of Qatar in Doha on Sunday. He is scheduled to fly to Baghdad on Monday.
