COVID Daily Death Toll in Iran Sets New Record, Soars Past 490
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s Health Ministry on Monday reported 496 new deaths from the coronavirus, the highest single-day toll since the viral disease broke out in February 2020.
Speaking at a daily press conference on Monday, Health Ministry’s Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 70,070, saying the disease has taken the lives of 496 patients over the past 24 hours.
She said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 infection in Iran has exceeded 2,417,200 following the detection of 21,026 new cases since yesterday, adding that 3,734 new cases have been admitted to the hospital.
More than 1,892,200 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman added.
Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 5,244 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.
She also said more that more than 15.31 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and 652,903 people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 147 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.12 million.
