Iran Marks Lowest Daily COVID Deaths in 7 Weeks


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of patients who have died of the coronavirus infection in Iran over the past 24 hours has dropped to 163, the lowest death toll since April 9.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 79,219, saying the disease has taken the lives of 163 patients over the past 24 hours.

She said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has exceeded 2,865,800 following the detection of 10,468 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected since Tuesday, 1,504 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

At least 2,379,139 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 4,587 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 19.3 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 2,844,600 people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 168 million and the death toll has exceeded 3.5 million.
