Yemeni Forces Deal Heavy Blow to Saudis in Major Ground Operation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – More than 80 Saudi officers and Sudanese mercenaries hired by the Saudi-led coalition have been killed and injured in a large-scale operation that the Yemeni forces have carried out in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern province of Jizan.

Arabic-language al-Masirah television network reported on Saturday that the Yemeni fighters have launched the operation from three directions on a road linking al-Khobh to Wadi Jarah.

The Yemeni forces have targeted Saudi Arabia’s military bases and equipment near Mount ‘MBC’ in Jizan, taken full control of a number of bases, and dealt heavy blows to the enemy, the report added.

It also noted that more than 80 Saudi officers, Sudanese mercenaries, and recruited combatants affiliated with the so-called ‘battalion of commandos’ paramilitary group have been killed and injured in the operation.

Many Saudi-led forces have been killed in an ambush as the Yemenis targeted the armored vehicles carrying Saudi troops and officers.

According to al-Masirah TV, dozens of Saudi and Sudanese forces have been captured in the operation, many corpses have been left in plains and valleys, and many others have fallen off ravines as they were attempting to flee.

At least 29 armored vehicles and personnel carriers of the Saudi army have been destroyed in the operation, while the Yemeni fighters have seized a large amount of ammunition and weapons as the spoils of war.

Saudi Arabia and its regional allies, chiefly the United Arab Emirates (UAE), launched a war against Yemen in March 2015 to restore the government of fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who resigned in 2014 and then flee to Riyadh.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the war has killed almost a quarter of a million Yemenis, caused outbreaks of disease, turned Yemen into the world’s worst humanitarian crisis and brought the poor Arab country to the verge of famine.

Yemeni Armed Forces have repeatedly warned the Saudi regime to end its fighting, threatening the regime with larger operations if it continues its aggression and siege.

Yemen’s Air Force has stepped up the retaliatory attacks on Saudi Arabia in recent months.
