Iran’s Top Banker Replaced after Presidential Nomination

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian cabinet laid the Central Bank Governor Abdolnasser Hemmati off after he decided to run for president and focused his attention on the campaign for the June 18 election.

Citing Hemmati’s involvement in the electoral campaign that has “prevented his sufficient presence in the Central Bank and fulfillment of the serious duties and responsibilities in the sensitive areas relating to money and currency”, the cabinet of ministers on Sunday discharged him from the post.

Akbar Komeijnai, the deputy of Hemmati, has been appointed as the new CBI governor.

Hemmati is one of the seven candidates running for president.
