Final Decision on JCPOA to Be Binding for Next Iranian Administration: Spokesman
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The administration of the next Iranian president will have to abide by the final decision that the establishment will make about the 2015 nuclear deal following the ongoing negotiations on revival of the agreement, the spokesman for the government said.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Ali Rabiee said honoring the commitments and respecting international law and regulations is a fixed policy of Iran that would not be subject to any change under different administrations.
“The nuclear file is a national dossier that is being advanced with consensus in the Islamic Republic, is unrelated to the domestic developments, and is being pursued by the governing organizations,” he explained.
Rabiee emphasized that any decision made by the Islamic Republic’s establishment with consensus about the JCPOA negotiations and its results will be respected by the next administration.
Asked about the latest developments in the Vienna talks for the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, he expressed hope that the final round of negotiations would be held soon and the talks would yield results.
“We are strongly opposed to the negotiations becoming talks of attrition to the same extent that we are not in a hurry in the talks. Our focus is on the conclusion of the talks in the remaining time,” the spokesman stated, adding that he would not speculate on the possible options for now.
The most recent round of JCPOA negotiations that began on April 6 examines the potential of revitalization of the nuclear deal and the US’ likely return to it.
The US left the JCPOA in 2018 and restored the economic sanctions that the accord had lifted. Tehran retaliated with remedial nuclear measures that it is entitled to take under the JCPOA’s Paragraph 36.
