Afghan Leader Urges Closer Ties with Iran in Phone Call with Raeisi

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – In a telephone conversation with Iranian President-elect Ebrahim Raeisi, President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani called for the enhancement of ties with Tehran in various fields.

The Afghan president congratulated Raeisi on his victory in the June 18 presidential election in Iran, wishing him success in the new post.

Afghanistan and Iran are two brotherly neighbors, Ghani said in the telephone conversation, hoping that the relations and cooperation between Kabul and Tehran would grow in various arenas during the tenure of Raeisi.

For his part, the Iranian president-elect thanked the Afghan leader, stressing the need for closer cooperation between the two neighboring states.

Raeisi was elected the 8th president of Iran by winning nearly 62% of the votes in the Friday presidential election.
