Story about Skirmish between Taliban, Iranian Forces Denied
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian security sources dismissed speculation about military clashes between the Taliban and Iranian forces at the common border with Afghanistan.
Speaking to Tasnim on Sunday, the security sources categorically denied the media reports about possible military clashes between the Taliban and the Iranian border guards at Islam Qala border crossing.
According to the sources, one of the Taliban members had crossed the border and entered Iran by mistake, but the Iranian border guards informed him about the rules and border regulations before handing him over to the Taliban on Sunday.
There has not been a single case of hostile skirmish or clash between the Taliban and the Iranian border guards, the sources noted.
The security sources called on people not to trust fake news, stressing that there is no problem along the border, either at the Islam Qala-Dogarun border crossing or anywhere else.
The Taliban surrounded Kabul on Sunday but promised not to attack the seat of power as handover talks were under way.
The Taliban and Afghan government officials are in negotiations for a peaceful transfer of power after Kabul was encircled.
The Taliban said they have instructed their members to refrain from violence and offer safe passage to anyone wishing to leave Kabul.
