IRGC Navy Puts Hospitals at Disposal of COVID Patients
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy has made all wards of its hospitals in many cities of Iran available for treatment of coronavirus patients as the medical society is engaged in a fierce battle against the fifth wave of the COVID pandemic, a top commander said.
In comments on Tuesday, IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Reza Tangsiri said the force has mobilized all medical units in the battle against the coronavirus after a recent order from Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei about the maximum employment of capacities to contain the pandemic.
He said all wards of the IRGC Navy’s hospitals in Bushehr, Shiraz, Bandar Abbas, Chaloos, Chah-Mobarak, and Bandar Lengeh have been made available to coronavirus patients.
The commander also noted that the IRGC Navy has set up many medical centers and field hospitals in the southern and northern costal provinces, mainly in underprivileged regions.
The IRGC Ground Force has already set up three field hospitals in the southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, one of the regions hit hardest by the outbreak of the new Indian variant of coronavirus.
In a televised speech delivered on August 11, Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted the role of the military forces in helping the medical staff, noting, “In the first months, when the disease had just appeared, the military forces–whether the Army or the IRGC–seriously entered the arena and accomplished great feats. Basij cooperated very well. Although they are active in the present time as well, they should use their full potential and help the people.”
The death toll from COVID-19 in Iran has surpassed 99,000.
