Iranian, Chinese Envoys Discuss Afghanistan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The ambassadors of Iran and China to Russia talked about various issues at a meeting in Moscow, including the latest developments in Afghanistan after the Taliban takeover of the country.

Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali and his Chinese counterpart Zhang Hanhui held talks on a range of bilateral and regional issues at the meeting in Moscow on Tuesday.

The two envoys discussed the latest developments in Afghanistan, where the Taliban have risen to power.

They also discussed regional cooperation between Iran and China and the plans on Iran’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Jalali and Hanhui also weighed plans for trilateral cooperation among Tehran, Beijing and Moscow, and talked about the economic issues as well as the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

On Monday, the presidents of Iran and China exchanged congratulatory messages on the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed the relations between the two regional allies, stressing that the 2016 comprehensive strategic partnership has “strengthened mutual trust” and both sides have made “steady progress in mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields.”
