US’ Escape from Afghanistan Prelude to Its Pullout from Region: IRGC General

In comments on Wednesday, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi pointed to the recent developments in Afghanistan, saying the US’ humiliating pullout from the neighboring country has marked a starting point for the US’ escape from the entire region.

“By God’s grace, we will soon observe that the American bases in the region will suffer the same fate as its bases in Afghanistan,” the general said, urging all regional states that they should distance themselves from the US.

General Naqdi explained that the US’ defeat and withdrawal from Afghanistan does not need a complicated analysis, as the British Empire and the Soviet Union had been defeated in Afghanistan in the past as well, which marked a beginning for the collapse of those two powers.

A correct understanding of the situation in Afghanistan brings all nations to the conclusion that resistance against big powers will result in victory in the face of occupiers, he stated.

Those who are afraid of the US had better realize how weak, humiliated and impotent the Americans have been in confrontation with a smaller force in Afghanistan, the general added, highlighting the hasty and embarrassing pullout of the US troops from Afghanistan.

He also urged the Europeans to learn lessons from the Afghan developments, cautioning them that following the US will lead to nothing but humiliation and disgrace.

Since 2001, the US has spent $2.26 trillion in Afghanistan, the Costs of War Project at Brown University calculates.

The US has been pulling its military forces from Afghanistan in recent weeks as the Taliban declared the war in Afghanistan over, after its members swept into the capital, Kabul, and President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.
