Iran, Russia Discuss Afghanistan, Mutual Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The foreign ministers of Iran and Russia talked about a range of issues in a telephone conversation, including the latest developments in Afghanistan, the economic cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, the regional affairs, and the negotiations on the revival of the JCPOA.
In the phone call on Thursday, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov discussed regional developments and initiatives related to Afghanistan, as well as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The other issues discussed by the two diplomats included the meetings between the officials of the two countries on the sidelines of the Shanghai Summit, the need to strengthen cooperation to contain COVID-19 pandemic, and the problems of traders and businessmen for visiting Russia.
As for the pandemic, Amirabdollahian emphasized that Tehran expects Russia to honor the previous agreements on supplying Iran with more sputnik vaccines.
He also thanked Russia for its efforts to resolve the problems related to the return of the Iranian students studying in Russia.
The foreign minister also pointed to the problems that Iranian traders and economic activists face for travelling to Russia, while Lavrov said he would follow up on the issue as soon as possible.
The foreign ministers of the Iran and Russia also discussed the regional developments and initiatives related to Afghanistan and stressed the need to form an inclusive government in the country which would represent all ethnic and political groups.
Amirabdollahian and Lavrov also exchanged views on the JCPOA and the Vienna talks, with the Russian minister saying Moscow, like Iran, does not accept any change in the nuclear deal and demands the full implementation of the agreement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
