COVID Deaths in Iran Exceed 116,000

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in Iran has surpassed 116,000, with over 450 more Iranians succumbing to the deadly disease in the last 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry.

The figures released by the Iranian Health Ministry on Thursday indicate that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 453 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 116,072.

According to the statistics, 18,021 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 2,859 of them hospitalized.

More than 4,682,700 individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 5,378,000 who have contracted the disease, the Ministry added.

Some 6,981 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The Ministry also said that more than 27 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while over 13.29 million have received the second dosage.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 227 million and the death toll has exceeded 4.67 million.
