Around 16,000 New COVID Cases Detected in Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of people tested positive for the coronavirus in Iran in the past 24 hours declined remarkably compared to the daily rates over the past weeks, standing at below 16,000 cases.

The Health Ministry announced on Sunday that the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has surpassed 5,424,800 after the detection of 15,975 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 2,207 patients have been admitted to the hospital, it added.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 6,765 coronavirus patients are being kept in the intensive care units because of more severe infection.

The ministry further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 117,182, saying the disease has taken the lives of 391 patients over the past 24 hours.

At least 4,764,900 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran.

The ministry also said more than 31 million coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far and over 29.46 million people have received the first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world is about to hit 229 million and the death toll exceeds 4.7 million.
