COVID-19 in Iran: Over 16,000 New Cases Reported in 24 Hours

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Health Ministry reported 317 more deaths from the coronavirus disease, which brings the total number of patients killed by the disease in the country to 118,508.

The Health Ministry said that 16,362 new cases of infection with the COVID-19 were found over the past 24 hours. It said 2,202 of them required hospitalization.

Out of a total of 5,493,591 infected people, 4,872,865 have recovered or been discharged from hospitals, the Ministry added.

The country has recorded 6,586 coronavirus patients in critical condition and intensive care units in the past 24 hours, it said.

The ministry also said that a total of 33,343,104 Iranians have so far received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, with 14,938,853 individuals having received the second dose.

The global tally of confirmed cases of the coronavirus-borne illness COVID-19 is closing in on 230 million. Some 212 million people in the world have had at least one shot.

The global death toll has risen to 4.71 million, according to data aggregated by Johns Hopkins University.

The US continues to lead the world with a total of 42.4 million cases and 679,551 deaths.

India is second by cases after the US at 33.5 million and has suffered 445,768 deaths. Brazil has the second highest death toll at 591,440 and 21.2 million cases.
