Education Minister Nominee Wins Iranian Parliament’s Confidence Vote

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian Parliament on Sunday concluded a vote of confidence in President Ebrahim Raisi’s pick to fill the last remaining vacancy in his cabinet.

The Iranian legislators on Sunday debated the qualifications of Yousef Nouri as the proposed nominee to lead the Ministry of Education.

Raisi could not personally attend the parliament’s session as he is in Turkmenistan for a summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO).

The lawmakers approved Yousef Nouri as the new minister of education with 194 votes in favor, 57 against, and 17 abstentions from a total of 268 votes.

The president’s previous pick for the Education Ministry, Masoud Fayyazi, had failed to garner the minimum number of votes by the parliament on November 16.

The Ministry of Education has around 900,000 employees, 63 percent of whom are teachers.
