Coronavirus in Iran: Daily Death Toll below 50 after 566 Days

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The number of patients who have died of the coronavirus infection in Iran over the past 24 hours stood at 42, the lowest death toll in over 18 months.

The Iranian Health Ministry put the total deaths from COVID-19 in the country at 130,764 on Monday, saying the disease has taken the lives of 42 patients over the past 24 hours, the lowest toll in 566 days.

Over the past 24 hours, 2,706 new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported, with 442 of them hospitalized, the ministry added.

More than 5,975,000 individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6,157,500 ones who have contracted the disease.

Some 3,069 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.

The ministry also said that over 58.77 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 49.56 million have received the second dosage, and more than 2.74 million have gotten the booster shots.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 270 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.32 million.
