Effective Removal of Sanctions Key to Success in Vienna Talks: Iran’s Top Negotiator
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s top negotiator in the Vienna talks for revival of the 2015 nuclear deal described the process of the negotiations as positive and moving forward, stressing that reaching an agreement depends on the effective removal of anti-Iran sanctions.
Speaking to reporters before entering Hotel Palais Coburg in Vienna to resume the talks, Ali Baqeri said the negotiations are moving forward positively.
He added that efforts continue for the achievement of a result in the talks.
Baqeri underlined that the key to success in the Vienna talks is reaching an agreement on the effective removal of the cruel sanctions against Iran.
The more serious the other side is about lifting the sanctions and accepting the mechanisms proposed by Islamic Republic of Iran about the sanctions’ removal, especially regarding the issues of verification and guarantees, the sooner can a deal be achieved, he stated.
The new round of talks between Iran and P4+1 – Russia, China, the UK, France and Germany - on the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal - known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) - and the termination of sanctions on Tehran restarted in Vienna on Monday.
The JCPOA negotiations resumed after the parties took a three-day break for the New Year.
Representatives of Iran and the P4+1 group began the eighth round of the Vienna talks on December 27 focused on the removal of all sanctions imposed on Tehran after Washington’s unilateral withdrawal from the agreement. The US is not allowed to directly attend the talks due to its pullout in 2018 from the landmark deal with Iran.
