COVID Death Toll in Iran Exceeds 133,000
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran has surpassed 133,000, the Health Ministry said.
Figures released by the ministry on Tuesday show that the coronavirus has taken the lives of 114 patients over the past 24 hours, bringing the total death toll since the outbreak of the pandemic in February 2020 to 133,048.
According to the statistics, 38,757 new cases of COVID-19 infection have been reported across the country over the past 24 hours, with 2,744 of them hospitalized.
More than 6.19 million individuals have recovered or been discharged from hospitals out of a total of 6,657,842 million who have contracted the disease, the ministry added.
Some 2,724 victims of COVID-19 are in severe condition and are being treated in intensive care facilities, it said.
The ministry also said that over 61.22 million Iranians have received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, over 54.61 million have received the second dosage, and more than 20.24 million have gotten the booster shots.
The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has surpassed 398 million and the death toll has exceeded 5.77 million.
