Officials Discuss Promotion of Iran-Turkmenistan Economic Ties
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Ranking diplomats from Iran and Turkmenistan weighed plans for the expansion of economic cooperation between the two neighbors.
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari and Turkmenistan's Deputy Foreign Minister Vafa Hajief held a meeting on the sidelines of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) conference in Tehran on Tuesday.
In the gathering, the two sides weighed plans to promote economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of energy, transportation and transit, between Tehran and Ashgabat.
The Iranian deputy foreign minister said Tehran is ready to boost cooperation with Turkmenistan in the fields of oil, gas, electricity and gas swap as well as transit.
He also noted that Iran is prepared to facilitate transportation via the north-south corridor.
For his part, Hajief underlined Turkmenistan’s readiness to increase trade exchanges and continue contacts to develop ties with Iran.
In a message for his Turkmen counterpart in early May, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi praised the growing cooperation with Turkmenistan in various fields, saying the interaction between the two neighbors in the gas industry and transportation has made good progress.
