Iran Urges Joint Action with Kenya in Fight against Terrorism, Piracy

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian highlighted the importance of relations with the African nations, calling for interaction with Kenya in combatting the common threats at the international arena, including terrorism and piracy.

In a telephone conversation with his Kenyan counterpart Raychelle Omamo on Thursday, Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian hailed the progress in the process of holding the joint commission of Iran and Kenya.

He stressed the significance of ties with Africa, especially Kenya, and underlined the need for synergy between Iran and Kenya in countering the common threats in the international arena, such as terrorism and piracy.

The Iranian foreign minister also pointed to the positive trend of containing the COVID pandemic in Iran and underscored the country’s readiness to send humanitarian aids, including medical assistance and vaccine, to Kenya and Africa.

Amirabdollahian also invited the top Kenyan diplomat to visit Tehran, describing cooperation between the two countries at the regional and international organizations as important.

There are very good potentials for the expansion of ties in all areas including trade and the private sectors of the two countries, he underlined.

For her part, Omamo highlighted Iran’s important place in the world and called for the expansion of bilateral ties.

She pointed to the upcoming sessions of the joint commission of Iran and Kenya, expressing hope that the commission meetings would result in the expansion and development of relations between Tehran and Nairobi.

The Kenyan foreign minister also emphasized the need to promote cooperation with Iran in the regional and international organizations.

The two foreign ministers further discussed the ways to facilitate consular issues for the Iranian and Kenyan nationals.

They also talked about the Vienna talks on the removal of anti-Iran sanctions and the issues relating to Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency.
