Syria Ready for Development of Cooperation with Iran in Different Fields: FM
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Syria’s Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad voiced his country’s willingness and readiness to enhance ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran in various fields.
Mekdad met with Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian in Tehran on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the two foreign ministers discussed and exchanged viewpoints on ways forward for all-out expansion of relations between the two countries, regional developments and international issues.
The Iranian foreign minister described the relations between the two countries as strategically deep.
Amirabdollahian also described the role of martyred Iranian General Qassem Soleimani in fighting terrorism in the region as unique and completely influential, saying the impact is clearly seen in the region.
The top Iranian diplomat also talked about the potential of the private sectors of both countries regarding the bilateral economic cooperation and reiterated the readiness of the Islamic Republic of Iran to expand cooperation in this regard.
Amirabdollahian also briefed his Syrian counterpart on the results and achievements of the summit of the guarantor countries of the Astana process that was successfully held with the presence of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his Russian and Turkish counterparts, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in Tehran on Tuesday and achieved its expected objectives.
Faisal Mekdad, for his part, conveyed the warm greetings of Syria’s president to the Islamic Revolution Leader and the Iranian President.
He expressed readiness for the expansion of cooperation with Iran in different fields and thanked the Islamic Republic of Iran for its stance and holding the summit of Astana process guarantor countries. He also reiterated the determination of Syria to fight terrorism.
Mekdad also described the issue of Palestine as the key issue of the region and the Muslim world, the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
The Syrian foreign minister also described as logical, pragmatic and wise the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its regional role.
