Iran Eager to Broaden Ties with Switzerland
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The president of Iran expressed hope for the promotion of cooperation with Switzerland at the regional and international levels.
In a message on Monday, President Ebrahim Raisi congratulated his Swiss counterpart Ignazio Cassis on the Swiss National Day, celebrated on August 1.
In his message, Raisi expressed hope that the relations between Tehran and Bern would grow in the bilateral, regional and international arenas on the basis of mutual interests and within the framework of a road map defined by the two states.
“I believe the historic, dynamic and amicable relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Swiss Confederation have provided a suitable ground for the maximal exploitation of the diverse capacities available in the ties between the two nations,” Raisi added.
In a meeting with Switzerland’s ambassador to Tehran in October 2021, Raisi called on the Swiss government to preserve its independent role in the face of the US’ unilateral policies.
“Switzerland has always played a positive role in maintaining and promoting peace, and is expected to be able in the new era to preserve its independent role in the face of the US’ unilateral policies,” the Iranian president said in the meeting.
