TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A total of seven people died as a result of floods in China’s southwestern province of Sichuan, regional emergency authorities said.

Three others were injured after flash floods hit Pengzhou City in southwest China's Sichuan Province on Saturday, China Media Group reported.

The injured people were hospitalized and are in a stable condition.

Sudden rising water triggered by heavy rainfall hit Longcaogou Valley at around 3:30 p.m., according to local authorities.

In videos shared on social media, floodwater could be seen pouring into a waterway where several people were trapped.

Several tourists who did not have time to evacuate have reportedly gone missing on a local mountain river after a flash flood washed them away.

Last month, at least six people died and another 12 went missing amid floods in northern Sichuan, in the Beichuan Qiang Autonomous County.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing.
