Past Agreements Implementable in New Conditions, Iran’s FM Says on JCPOA

During a visit to Tanzania on Friday, the top Iranian diplomat and his counterpart from the East African nation met for a series of talks.

Pointing to the latest developments in the talks on the revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the removal of sanctions on Iran, Amirabdollahian said if the US conducts realistically, it will be possible to carry out the previous agreements under new conditions.

Amirabdollahian has taken a tour of Africa after Washington on Wednesday responded to Iran’s comments about a European Union proposal that is aimed at taking the JCPOA talks out of its current impasse.

Iran and world countries, including the US, struck the JCPOA in 2015. However, in a unilateral and illegal move, the US pulled out of the deal in May 2018, under pressure from the Israeli regime and its influential lobby groups in Washington. After withdrawing from the deal, the US also reinstated the draconian sanctions that the deal had lifted.

Elsewhere in the meeting with the foreign minister of Tanzania, Amirabdollahian called for efforts to implement the agreements reached during the first session of Iran-Tanzania Joint Commission on Comprehensive Cooperation.

In a separate meeting on Friday, the Iranian foreign minister and President of Samia Suluhu Hassan weighed plans for the promotion of economic and trade relations between the two countries.

Highlighting Iran’s capabilities in various fields, such as trade, the energy sector, industries, technology and academic education, the foreign minister called for the removal of obstacles to the presence of Iranian companies and business people in Tanzania.

Heading a high-ranking economic delegation comprised of representatives from the private and state-run sectors of Iran, Amirabdollahian is taking a tour of Africa that has also taken him to Mali and Zanzibar.
