Chilean Police Clash with Students Protesting for Improvement of Study Conditions (+Video)
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Hundreds of high school students protested in Santiago, the capital of Chile, demanding better facilities for public schools.
Some demonstrators threw petrol bombs and clashed with police, who dispersed the crowd using water cannons.
High school and university students also marched last Sunday to demand a true Constituent Assembly following the referendum, which resulted in victory over the rejection of the Constitution proposal that emerged after the 2019 social outbreak.
Young people proceeded in the direction of the Palacio de la Moneda, the seat of executive power, with the intention of reaching the Ministry of Education, which they could not reach due to the presence of the police.
The groups convened by the Revolutionary Secondary Coordinator demand minimum conditions for the study, better Internet access and new infrastructure.
A group of demonstrators attempt to reach the headquarters of the Conservative National Renovation Party (RN), whose leadership opposes a call for a constituent assembly.
Following the dispute, the new Minister of the Interior, Carolina Toha, and the Carabineros commanders met in La Moneda to coordinate preventive actions.
Chilean students launched a series of mobilizations last Tuesday to defend their demands, which also include free transportation and universal access to the university.
