Iran Eyes Interaction with Serbia for World Peace

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian deputy foreign minister called for joint action with Serbia to contribute to the regional and international peace.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Baqeri, who is in Serbia in the second leg of a European trip after visiting Hungary, held a meeting with Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic in Belgrade on Thursday.

Baqeri highlighted the common experiences of Iran and Serbia in dealing with the foreign sanctions, saying the two countries share views on many international developments.

He urged that such common views on major international issues should turn into joint action in the international arena, so that the two nations would work in collective cooperation with the other independent states in order to strengthen regional and world peace and stability.

Lauding Serbia’s strategic view on the regional and international issues as a valuable asset to closer relations between Tehran and Belgrade, Baqeri said the ties between the two countries include a broad range of subjects, such as the political, economic, military, cultural and scientific cooperation.

For his part, Selakovic outlined Serbia’s regional and international policies, stressing the need to broaden relations with Iran in all fields.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Iranian and Serbian diplomats deplored the US and West’s double standards on the international law and their instrumental use of sanctions against the other nations.

They emphasized that Iran and Serbia do not support the unilateral sanctions against any country, because such policy runs counter to the basic principles of the international law and the interests of the nations.
