Iranian President Congratulates Iraqi Counterpart on His Election
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - In a message sent to the Iraqi people and government on Thursday, the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran congratulated Abdul Latif Rashid on his election as the country's new president.
In his message on the occasion, President Ebrahim Raisi expressed the hope that Abdul Rashid Latif's election as the new president of Iraq will be a step toward the country's development, as well as the further deepening of Iran-Iraq relations.
The president highlighted that Iran has consistently supported Iraqi political developments based on the nation's will and worked to expand brotherly relations with Iraq.
In the message, Raisi wished the Iraqi people and government success and prosperity.
On Thursday night, Abdul Latif Rashid, the National Union of Iraqi Kurdistan Region's candidate, received 95 votes from the Iraqi Parliament and was subsequently elected president of Iraq.
